e-Mail marketing is one of the most important marketing instruments of our times. Numerous interested people and interest groups can be reached quickly and easily. The success of these campaigns depends on various factors, but also substantially on the time the newsletter is sent.

So when is the optimal time to send e-Mails?

According to a study by e-Mail marketing agency GetResponse, the best time to send e-Mails is between 8:00 and 10:00 AM or between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. At these times, you can expect opening and click-through rates that are 6 per cent higher.
In addition, the probability that an e-Mail will be read rises in the afternoon, since recipients’ inboxes are mostly full in the morning.

In general, newsletters attain the best opening rates during the first hour they have arrived in the recipients’ inboxes. Round 23.63 per cent of all e-Mails sent are opened during this period. This rate falls by more than 50 per cent during the next hour.

On which day of the week can the best results be attained?

The period from Tuesday to Thursday has proved itself as the best time to send a newsletter. Nevertheless, various studies reveal that no particular day is best for sending e-Mails. The best results can be attained by ascertaining the respectively most responsive sending time yourself.

Relevant aspects for effective e-Mail marketing:

  • Keep the newsletter uncluttered and simple.
  • Use clean HTML and CSS.
  • Conduct tests! Some mail clients interpret HTML differently.
  • Do not embed videos. Videos are not supported by every client.
  • Use words like “free” carefully, since the e-Mail can otherwise get stuck in the spam filter.
  • Instead of e-Mail attachments, offer links to contents.
  • Use images and graphics sparingly, but in a target-oriented manner.
